WELCOME TO TOGETHER FOR CAMBODIA…. WHO ARE WE?

In Autumn 2007 I came to Cambodia as a tourist. My name is Lidia Linde Ginesta, I am from Spain and I was enthralled by the colours, the sound of the Mekong River, the living Tonle Sap water and the magic of the ancient architecture and Temples. Cambodia’s recent past, and the tragic consequences of the Civil war also touched me deeply. I fell in love with the country, its people and its difficult journey.

In the year 2008 I came back to Cambodia as a volunteer many times. I worked in 3 organizations with children that would inspire a king to build an empire for them. I decided to see what I could do to help these children. My life would never be the same again. I made the commitment to invest my time and energy in working with a group of young children, all of whom come from seriously disadvantaged home, or who are orphans, to help them get the education and support they need to make a real contribution to the development of their community and their country. We set up the Children’s Home, Together for Cambodia, with the help and cooperation of the local authorities.

The Kingdom of Cambodia is in the process of development countries in Asia, although it experienced positive economic growth between 1999 and 2019.

Hard years of war, conflict and widespread violence between 1970 and 1989 destroyed the infrastructure of the Cambodian society and the progress of a nation that was known as the France of Southeast Asia. In Cambodia schooling is not compulsory, children work in rice fields, picking up rubbish, selling post cards, with little reward ... The gap between a minority that monopolizes the country's wealth and a dispossessed majority, is growing, especially in rural areas. Marginalization, lack of resources for education and health, make children, young people and women especially vulnerable. They are subjected to situations of injustice, hunger, homelessness, child abuse, prostitution, disease and sexually transmitted diseases. Malaria, AIDS and land mines have maimed a population with an average age of 29 years. In the cities there are communities with no electricity or running water and a serious lack of hygiene. Chickens, pigs, rice and human beings overlap in a beautiful and frightening combination. Cambodia lost a generation of trained adults, destroyed by a the regime of terror. The young children are the hope for the future.

Our headquarters is in Siem Reap, just minutes away from the magnificent ancient temples of Angkor Wat.
